Warri, Delta State is set to witness a historic gathering of football greats as African legends including Samuel Eto, Austin JJ Okocha,Kanu Nwankwo, Obafemi Martins,Elhaji Diouf and  other top African soccer legends are expected to storm the oil city for a high-profile novelty football match on August 22nd,2026.


The star-studded encounter forms part of activities marking the 5th coronation anniversary of His Royal Majesty,OgiameAtuwatseIII CFR, the Olu of Warri, whose reign has been widely celebrated for fostering unity, cultural pride, and development across the kingdom.


Sources close to the organisers reveal that the novelty match will bring together a blend of retired African football icons and Indigenous talents in what promises to be an entertaining and symbolic game aimed at celebrating excellence, heritage, and sportsmanship.

The highlight of the reunion was the honour bestowed on former head coach, Benjamin Okomoh , who was gifted Two  million naira by his ex-players in appreciation of the discipline, mentorship and values he instilled in them during their playing days. His former assistant coach was also honoured with a cash gift of over six hundred thousand naira for his contribution to the team’s growth and development.
