Leeds United FC of England have officially completed the signing of Nigerian defender Leonard Ngenge, who arrives from Nigeria Premier Football League side Remo Stars FC on a contract running until the end of the 2026/27 season.
The 18-year-old centre-back will join Leeds’ academy setup as part of the club’s long-term development strategy. Although recruited initially for youth ranks, Leeds United officials see significant potential in Ngenge’s abilities as he adapts to European football.
Ngenge made seven senior appearances for Remo Stars this season before his move to West Yorkshire and has already attracted attention with his early rise through Nigerian football. Before joining Remo Stars he featured prominently for Ikorodu City, where his performances in the Nigeria Premier Football League drew wider interest.
In addition to his club career, Ngenge has senior international experience, having been capped twice by the Nigeria national team in 2025, including a full ninety-minute appearance in a match against Senegal.
In his first comments since signing, Ngenge described the move as “a big step” in his career, expressing excitement at the opportunity to develop at a club with a rich history. He highlighted his ambition to make the most of the chance and contribute at the highest level.
Leeds United’s capture of Ngenge reflects the club’s ongoing focus on identifying and nurturing promising young talent from around the world a key element of their academy ethos.
