Oslo, Norway — Nigerian teenage winger Promise Meliga Jr. has taken a significant step in his professional football journey after joining Vålerenga Fotball, one of Norway’s top-tier clubs in the Eliteserien.

Meliga, born on August 21, 2007, rose through the ranks of Beyond Limits Football Academy, a Nigerian talent hub known for producing export-ready players, and earned a long-term contract with Vålerenga after impressing during trials and training sessions.

Standing out for his blistering pace, creativity, and technical skill, the Nigerian winger has drawn comparisons to world-class attackers — even being dubbed the next “Nigerian Mbappé” by some pundits due to his style and potential. His rise from local academy football to European professional ranks highlights the increasing influence of Nigerian youth development programs on the global stage.

Meliga’s breakthrough moment came in Vålerenga’s recent Oslo Derby in the Eliteserien, where he made his professional league debut. Brought on as a substitute in the 72nd minute of a heated 1–1 draw against city rivals KFUM Oslo, the 18-year-old showcased his attacking intent with direct runs and quick combinations, earning praise from supporters for his confidence and flair.

Expressing his delight after the game, Meliga said:

I feel very happy to make my first league debut. It’s a great opportunity, and I’m really excited and full of joy.

Vålerenga’s squad list confirms Meliga as part of the club’s plans for the 2026 season, where he continues to develop under professional coaching standards and in competitive European football.

Football analysts see Meliga’s transfer as another success story for Beyond Limits Academy, which has facilitated moves for several promising Nigerian talents to clubs across Europe and South America, reinforcing its reputation as a leading source of young football prospects.

Meliga’s ongoing progression at Vålerenga will be closely watched by scouts and fans alike, as he aims to evolve from a promising prospect into a regular first-team contributor and, potentially, a future star on the international stage.
