Mulade Inaugurates LOC for 2026 Delta Ethnic Peace and Unity Cup,

Executive Director of Center for Peace and Environmental Justice CEPEJ, Comrade Sheriff Mulade on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, inaugurated the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2026 Delta Ethnic Peace and Unity Cup, in a ceremony held at the Africa Centre for Peace.


Speaking during the inauguration, Mulade said the tournament is designed to promote peace, unity, and grassroots football development across Delta State. He noted that the competition will also serve as a platform to discover young talents who will be nurtured for future opportunities, while complementing the state government’s efforts in fostering peace and empowering youths.


“The essence of this competition is to bring our people together, strengthen unity among our diverse ethnic nationalities, and create opportunities for our young talents to thrive,” Mulade stated.





The LOC is chaired by former Delta Football Association (DFA) Chairman, Chief Kenneth Nwomocha, with Azuka Chiemeka serving as Vice Chairman. Clarkson Ogo was named Secretary, while ex-international Edema Fuludu will serve as adviser to the committee.


The 2026 Delta Ethnic Peace and Unity Cup will feature participation from the state’s seven ethnic nationalities—Ijaw, Itsekiri, Isoko, Ika, Ndokwa, Urhobo, and Aniocha—with each ethnic group presenting four teams.


The tournament will be competed across four categories: Under-12, Under-14, Under-16, and Under-20, providing a broad platform for youth engagement and development.


Organisers also revealed that the competition will offer multi-million naira prizes for winners in all categories, further boosting the stakes and attractiveness of the tournament.


The initiative is widely seen as a strategic blend of sports and peacebuilding, aimed at strengthening unity and harnessing the immense football talent within Delta State.

The highlight of the reunion was the honour bestowed on former head coach, Benjamin Okomoh , who was gifted Two  million naira by his ex-players in appreciation of the discipline, mentorship and values he instilled in them during their playing days.
