NSC Cancels NFF Elective Congress as Major Shake-Up Looms

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has cancelled the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Elective Congress scheduled to take place on September 27 in Lafia, Nasarawa State, in a move that could trigger a major reorganisation of Nigerian football.

The decision is reportedly part of plans by the NSC to restructure the administration of the NFF and address recent challenges confronting the country’s football system.

According to reports, the sports commission is preparing to appoint a three-month normalisation committee to oversee the affairs of the federation. The committee would be expected to stabilise the NFF and lay the groundwork for fresh elections.

The development comes at a difficult time for Nigerian football, with concerns over the performance and administration of the country’s national teams. The Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup has further intensified scrutiny on the leadership and direction of Nigerian football.
