WARRI, DELTA STATE  Warri is set to witness a spectacular gathering of African football legends as some of the continent’s biggest football icons are expected to grace the city for a novelty football match marking the 5th coronation anniversary of His Royal Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III CFR, the Olu of Warri.


The star-studded novelty match, scheduled to kick off at 12 noon, will be played at the Shell Club Football Field, Ogunu, Warri, as part of activities lined up to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the monarch’s coronation.


Among the football legends expected to feature are former Cameroon captain and African football icon Samuel Eto’o, Nigerian stars Austin “Jay-Jay” Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu and Obafemi Martins, as well as Senegalese great El Hadji Diouf, alongside other celebrated African football personalities.


The appearance of the legends is expected to add significant glamour to the anniversary celebrations, with football fans and residents of Warri anticipated to turn out in large numbers to catch a glimpse of the former stars in action.


The novelty encounter is designed not only as an entertaining football spectacle but also as part of the broader celebration of the Olu of Warri’s fifth year on the throne.
